The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has officially resumed duty after completing a six-month research and accumulated leave. During a short ceremony held on campus, Prof. Fasina expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for good health, grace, and the opportunity to continue serving the university community.
In his welcome address titled “Peace – Sine Qua Non for University Development,” the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Olubunmi S. Shittu, for his effective leadership during his absence. He also thanked other principal officers — Professor Bolanle T. Opoola (DVC, Administration), Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole (DVC, SPRIL), Mr. Mufutau Ibrahim (Registrar), Professor Isaac Busayo (University Librarian), and Dr. Adebolanle Debo-Ajagunna (Bursar). Prof. Fasina further acknowledged the efforts of the Deans, Directors, Senate members, and the entire university community for maintaining stability and productivity in the institution.
Speaking about his time away, Professor Fasina said it was a period of deep reflection and personal growth. He explained that every institution goes through challenges that test its strength and values. He therefore encouraged members of the FUOYE community to promote peace, unity, and collective effort as the keys to continuous progress.
“It is better to learn from experience than to keep repeating the same mistakes,” he said, urging all staff to “reflect deeply, forgive easily, and move forward with renewed wisdom and purpose.”
Reaffirming his commitment to the growth of FUOYE, the Vice-Chancellor outlined his priorities for the coming weeks. He emphasized that the next round of programme accreditation is a major task that will further position FUOYE among Nigeria’s leading universities. He called on all staff — from Deans and Heads of Departments to non-teaching staff — to give their best to ensure a successful accreditation exercise. “There is a lot to do in a short time, and everyone must be involved,” he added.
On staff welfare, Prof. Fasina announced that the much-anticipated Relocation Allowance would soon be paid, assuring staff that his administration remains committed to fulfilling all financial obligations. He also mentioned several ongoing projects, including the completion of the Senate Building, promising that no project would be left unfinished. “This administration must finish strong,” he stated confidently.
Prof. Fasina also extended his appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and other council members for their continuous support and encouragement.
As he concluded his speech, the Vice-Chancellor called on both staff and students to remain united and dedicated to the university’s mission. “Together, we will keep working hard until the last day of this tenure. Let us stay focused and steadfast. Remember, God always wins,” he concluded.
